I wanted to share with you something that has been my motto for as long as I can remember – “All you need is 20 seconds of insane courage, and I promise you something great will come of it.”
These words, famously spoken by Jim Carrey, have resonated deeply with me.
“Fear is going to be a player in your life, but you get to decide how much. You can spend your whole life imagining ghosts, worrying about the pathway to the future, but all it will ever be is what’s happening here, the decisions in that we make in this moment, which are based in either love or fear”
Jim Carrey
Recently, a close friend described my approach to risk as having a childlike innocent,. Perhaps it is this unwavering embrace of the 20 seconds of insane courage that propels me forward in various endeavors.
Allow me to share with you my top five instances where these 20 seconds of courage led to remarkable outcomes:
1. Starting a business at just 20 years old, defying the naysayers who called me crazy.
2. Reconnecting with my beautiful wife at a wedding, overlooking the date she brought with her. Aventurely getting married and having the most beautiful boys together.
3. Persevering through a challenging industrial contract where I lost $475,000. Night after night, thoughts of giving up plagued me, but every morning, I found the strength to continue and successfully complete the project. This experience propelled me to accomplish over 300 bridges throughout my career.
4. Overcoming obstacles during the manufacturing of a women’s perfume product. This required countless calls, face-to-face sales pitches to retailers, and even facing legal issues in Montreal.
5. Making the courageous decision to sell my oldest company and retire from an industry I had been involved in for nearly 30 years.
Each of these instances required a certain level of courage to conquer fear, and I am grateful for the positive outcomes they have brought into my life.
As Jim Carrey rightly states, fear’s influence is ultimately determined by us. We possess the power to shape our lives and decide how much fear we allow to govern our choices.
Wishing you a day filled with courageous decisions and remarkable outcomes,
Your friend
