Basaltina Stone Italy

My amazing visit to the historical Basaltina quarry! Thank you Gianluca Pellegrino CEO. An amazing group of staff, their dedication and commitment was apparent when I met with few of the core team!

Basaltina marble quarry, also known as basaltina stone or simply basaltina, is a type of natural stone that is formed from volcanic lava flows. It is composed primarily of basalt, which gives it its unique appearance and characteristics.

I was honoured to be invited when CEO Gianluca Pellegrino ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/gianluca-pellegrino-30b59246 ) extended the invitation to tour the quarry. Basaltina quarry has been there for over 500 years and currently owned and operated for the last 100 years by the Tecchi family! The products are shipped all over the world and I was lucky enough to be invited to meet Valentina Tecchi https://www.linkedin.com/in/valentina-tecchi-536128101 and the rest of the production team. Honoured to be able to tour the quarry, to see the extraction, cutting and laboratory facility, where they shape the stone to the clients specification. There are so many existing clients and distributors that never have had this chance that I have to see the quarry.

Being a serial entrepreneur I was fascinated by the operations and the details of their current success. Basaltina is fortunate enough to have clients, like JP Morgan Bank in the USA, Dolce Gabbana world wide, retail and fashion house, architectural firms, high-end luxurious homes and many more. Historically Basaltina stone is all over Rome, St Peters the Vatican and literally the streets of Rome. Check out more wonderful projects on their website: www.Basaltina.it

Basaltina is typically extracted from areas in regions with significant basalt deposits, such as Italy, specifically the Lazio region.

This small tunnel is the entrance to the quarry, and every marble bolder passes through it to get to the cutting facility.

Every marble bolder is squared off before it starts the slicing process. It was amazing to see a 10-12 ton bolder get shaped as a solid piece of rectangular block.

Here are some key features of Basaltina marble:

Color and Texture: Basaltina marble typically has a dark gray to black color with subtle variations in shade and texture. It often contains small voids or vesicles that add to its natural and rustic appeal.

Durability: Basaltina marble is known for its exceptional strength and durability. It is highly resistant to scratches, wear, heat, and chemical damage, making it suitable for various applications, both indoors and outdoors.

Versatility: Basaltina marble is a versatile material that can be used in a variety of applications, including countertops, floor tiles, wall cladding, stairs, and more. It can complement both contemporary and traditional design styles.

Natural Beauty: The natural beauty of Basaltina marble lies in its unique patterns, texture, and colors. The dark and rich tones can create a dramatic and elegant look in interior or exterior spaces.

Low Maintenance: Basaltina marble is relatively easy to maintain. Regular cleaning with mild soap and water, along with periodic sealing, can help preserve its appearance and protect it from staining.

Celebrating Success, with the entire Basaltina Stone Family. Couldn’t help myself, grabbing the used champagne bottle from a recent celebration and waving it in the air. From the brief detail Gianluca shared the company is doing very well!

Like the Italian say, cento anni, meaning 100 years. A saying wishing another 100 years of success and unity. Felt it was appropriate to wish Gianluca and the team another 100 years of a successful relationship together!

The team can custom cut to your desire, common thickness is 2cm and 3cm. For more information contact the Basaltina office.

If you are interested in using Basaltina marble for a project or need more specific information, I recommend reaching out to local stone suppliers or contact Mauro Vaccaro https://www.linkedin.com/in/mauro-vaccaro the North America Basaltina representatives who can provide up-to-date information on its availability and pricing.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask myself, I’d be more then happy to help connect you to Gianluca or Mauro and the team to get your hands on some luxurious durable Italian Basaltina marble.

I’ve asked Gianluca to set me up with their team for a small personal decorative project, in order to have a piece of Italy in my home!

I hope this information helps! If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
