Throughout my life, I have always felt that I had a fairly clear plan of what success means to me. It starts when you are committed. As an ambitious person, sometimes I felt that I wanted things for others more than they wanted for themselves. I quickly realized that not everyone’s idea of success was the same as mine.
Determining success is subjective and personal. It depends on your individual goals, values, and circumstances. Here are a few ways to assess whether you consider yourself successful:
Goals and achievements: Reflect on the goals you have set for yourself, both short-term and long-term. Have you made progress towards achieving those goals? Have you achieved any significant milestones or accomplishments that signify success in your eyes?
Personal fulfillment: Consider whether you feel fulfilled and satisfied with your life and the work you do. Do you find meaning and purpose in what you do? Are you happy with your personal relationships and overall well-being? Personal fulfillment is a vital component of success.
Growth and learning: Success can also be measured by your personal growth and continuous learning. Have you expanded your knowledge and skills? Have you overcome challenges and gained valuable experiences along the way? Pay attention to how much you have developed and evolved as an individual.
Impact and contribution: Consider the impact you have had on others or your community. Have you made a positive difference? Have you contributed to causes or activities that align with your values? Making a meaningful impact can be a significant measure of success.
Happiness and contentment: Ultimately, success can be defined by your level of happiness, contentment, and overall well-being. If you find joy in your life, have a sense of fulfillment, and feel at peace with yourself, then you may consider yourself successful.
It’s important to remember that success is unique to each person. What may be considered successful for one individual might not be the same for another. Focus on defining what success means to you personally and regularly reassess your goals and priorities along the way.
In 2014, I met John Spence, a business thought leader (www.johnspence.com), at a business leadership conference in Banff, Alberta, Canada. I spent the day completing one of John’s assessment exercises for one of my companies. He was very impressive, and so was the day I spent with him!
John offered his direct contact info to the members who participated in his workshop. I reached out to thank him for the insight and helping me realize some of the changes we needed to make! John replied and gave me the most powerful document I have ever read, ‘Strategies for Success.’
When I read John’s ‘Strategies for Success,’ I couldn’t believe how it helped refine my definition of success! The very last page, I broke down and cried. It was the first time I realized what made me different from 98% of my fellow human beings! It’s the most powerful page for me!
Now it’s your chance to see if you can clarify what success means to you. See the instructions below in the ‘Strategies for Success’ workbook.
This is what you are going to need.
-
- The REAL Secret to Success YouTube video https://youtu.be/M7dUIXEzPfg (if anyone needs to watch it again).
- Strategies for Life Success – Workbook – PDF – John Spence’s Book Store (mybigcommerce.com).
- The resource center link for instruction for each workshop: https://johnspence.com/resource-center/.
This is a personal document, and it is more important to be brutally honest with yourself. Remember you do not have to share this with anyone.
Good Luck! I hope everyone who is looking for answers to what success is, is brave enough to read John’s most powerful personal publications.
Thank you, John, from the bottom of my heart! Your help is priceless.
